Samgong-Mitsubishi Selfjector Separators

Samgong Selfjector is the brand name of the centrifugal oil and fuel separators manufactured by Samgong Co. Ltd. under licence from Mitsubishi Kakoki Kaisha. They are particularly widespread on vessels built in Korean shipyards.

Technically they belong to the same product family as the Mitsubishi Selfjector; the bowl construction, disc stack and discharge mechanism are based on a common design. We therefore service both brands with the same expertise.

For this equipment, which separates water and solid particles from the heavy fuel oil, diesel oil and lubricating oils used in ships’ main engines and generators, we carry out complete overhaul, bowl balancing, disc stack maintenance and spare parts supply.

Our Overhaul Process

Disassembly and Inspection

The bowl and disc stack are removed from the machine housing and fully disassembled; the shaft, bearing seats and housing surfaces are inspected for wear and deformation.

Cleaning

The hardened sludge and carbon layer on the inner bowl surface, disc stack and housing is dissolved by chemical methods and removed.

Measurement and Balancing

Shaft and bowl dimensions are checked and the bowl is balanced on the balancing machine. Bearings, seals and gasket sets are renewed.

Assembly and Testing

The components are reassembled; speed, vibration and the discharge function are tested, and the machine is handed over in running condition.

Our Measurement and Balancing Capability

In a separator overhaul, the result is determined not by disassembly and cleaning but by the accuracy of the measurement. A machine whose bowl has been balanced incorrectly soon produces vibration, wears out its bearings and fails again.

With the balancing machine and laser measuring equipment at our Tuzla facility, we complete this work under our own control, without outsourcing it.

What Happens When Maintenance Is Delayed

Sludge and carbon building up inside the bowl narrow the separation channels between the discs. The separator may then run at the same speed, but its separation efficiency drops; water and solid particles in the fuel and oil begin to pass through to the machinery.

The deposits also upset the balance of the bowl and generate vibration. That vibration wears the shaft bearings and the gear assembly; at a later stage the damage is no longer confined to the separator and carries over to the main engine it feeds.
